||Indoor Free Play
||Upon arrival to the before school program, the Kindergarten children wash their hands.
Children are then encouraged to move freely to activities of their choice. Activities include sensory, science, manipulatives, imaginative and pretend play, blocks, literacy, creative, and puzzles. Opportunity is given for quiet solitary play, as well as group and cooperative play. Curriculum is based on observations made by the teacher and the interests and needs of the children. The curriculum includes planned possibilities and actualities.
||Children are encouraged to tidy up their activities as they finish playing. A final group tidy is completed around 8:15.
||Transition for Walk to
Wellesley Public School
|While preparing to walk up to Wellesley Public School, the children are encouraged in their self-help skills when putting on their outdoor clothing.
||Walk to Wellesley Public School
||2 staff accompany children on the walk to Wellesley Public School. Staff wait for the bell to ring and the children safely enter the building.
||Walk to IMELC
||2 staff meet the children inside the Public School at the designated meeting spot. Staff follow the safe arrival policy. When all the children have arrived, staff accompany the children on the walk back to IMELC.
||Transition to classroom
||Upon arrival at IMELC, the children change into indoor attire and wash their hands
||Children are encouraged to move freely to the activity centre of their choice. Centres include sensory, science, manipulatives, dramatic play, blocks, literacy, creative and puzzles. Opportunity is given for quiet, solitary play, as well as group and cooperative play. Curriculum is based on the observations made by the teacher and the interests and needs of the children. Opportunity will be given for children to go outside for gross motor and free play. Outdoor play is seen as an extension of indoor play. Outdoor activities include riding toys, sandbox, balls and beanbags, blocks and tubes, shovels and sleds, and imaginative play.
||Snack is free flowing during this time, The children wash their hands and eat snack when they are hungry.
||Tidy up/Small Group
and Closing Routine
|Children are encouraged to tidy up their activities when they are finished. As children depart, centres within the room will tidied and prepared for the next day. A group time may be incorporated, which includes songs, stories and group games.
