Preschool Express Daily Schedule

The Preschool Express schedule follows the same order each day, however, the times may vary.
As much time as possible is dedicated to free choice of activities by the children.

7:30-10:10 Free play – children choose different areas to play including creative, sensory activities, shelf toys, dramatic play and block centre. Snack is available during this time. Children who wish to have snack wash their hands prior to sitting at the table and when finished eating.
Children go to the washroom and diapers are checked towards the end of this time before outdoor play.
10:10-10:20 Children tidy up and sit on the carpet for large group time with one of the teachers. The other teacher sets the tables for lunch and puts out the beds.
10:20 – 10:30 Prepare for Outdoors – children prepare for outdoor play at their cubbies in the hall. Children may go outside in 2 separate groups, depending on when they are ready.
10:30-11:30 Outdoor play – including riding toys, sandbox, balls, hula-hoops etc. During inclement weather, inside gross motor activities include but are not limited to – action songs and games, yoga and dancing. The class returns inside when lunch arrives or at 11:30am, whichever is later.
11:30-11:40 Prepare for indoors – including removing outdoor clothing, putting on indoor shoes. Diapers are changed/put on for nap and children wash their hands.
11:40-12:15 Children sit at the table for lunch after washing their hands. Teachers prepare the plates with input from each child regarding the amount and the children pour their own milk. The group sings “Hungry Hungry” together. The teachers sit and eat with the children encouraging conversations, modeling positive social interactions and appropriate manners.
12:15-12:30 As children finish they clear their spot and proceed to the washroom to wash their hands and face. Children in underwear use the toilet at this time. Once finished in the bathroom the children proceed to their beds and look at books until a teacher tucks them in for a rest. If time permits, a story is read.
12:30-2:30 Rest time. Quiet music plays in the background while children rest. Quiet activities are available for non-sleeping children.
2:30-3:05 As children wake, they use the toilet or have their diapers changed/ removed. As they rise, they look at books and engage in activities until all the beds are away. A teacher reads a story, if time permits or upon the children’s request.
3:05 – 3:15 Prepare for outdoors – children dress in their outdoor clothing and shoes at their cubbies in the hall. Children may go outside in 2 separate groups, depending on when they are ready.
3:15-4:15 Outdoor play – including riding toys, sandbox, balls, hula-hoops etc. During inclement weather, inside gross motor activities include but are not limited to – action songs and games, yoga and dancing.
4:15-4:25 Prepare for indoor play including removing outdoor clothing, putting on indoor shoes, washing hands and washroom routine.
4:25-5:45 Free play – children choose different areas to play including creative, sensory activities, shelf toys, dramatic play, and block centre. Children who wish to have snack wash their hands prior to sitting at the table and when finished eating. Children go to the washroom as needed. Diapers are changed and checked prior to 4:45pm and thereafter as needed.
5:45-6:00 Children combine in Toddlerville. Free play is available – children choose different activities to play with until they go home. Children tidy up as they go home.
